Smile What's It Worth?

Greetings one and All,

Just joined the site to try and get a feel for used prices etc and research things Volvo. Was wondering if I might pick your brains over this? I'm considering selling the Volvo.

I have a 1998 V70 T5 SE with a full service history, albeit not all Volvo, and
121k on the clock. It has velour upholstery air con/climate etc and is pretty standard spec. Any ball park figures as to what I could expect to get for it privately or as a trade in please?

I'd really like to turn it around for a diesel but at the lower end of the price bracket. I love the car, have had it five and a half years now but with two young kids always in it, I never get to enjoy the performance anymore.

What sort of money would I be looking at for say an 850TDi or an early V70TDi with up to 100k on the clock?

I've been looking on the usual sites and there doesn't seem to be many about, (surprise surprise), those that are tend to have getting on for 200k on them. I know that this shouldn't really be a problem but I don't intend to change the car again for a few years so would rather to have a lower mileage one.

Anything that I need to watch out for?

I've been down the LPG conversion route but with the govt only stating that they wont tax it until the start of 2009, it would take a very long time to break even financially on the outlay, never mind find some savings on the fuel bill.

Any advise appreciated.

Regards

Hi there and welcome.

I don't know what your V70 T5 is worth but I've recently bought an S70 TDi. It has full history (including cambelt and water pump change) and 125k on the clock. It's an auto and took a bit of finding. I paid £2,800 for it and am happy with it. It's a base model with 3 options: climate control, alloys and a boot spoiler.

performance wise, it won't match your T5 but it's no slouch either - it's happy cruising at a good speed on the motorway and has enough grunt to get you off the line/overtake safely/ surprise a few people who think Volvo's are for old men to drive slowly...

I hope you find what you want.

Cheers

Pete

Ey up SkidT, I bought a 98 V70T5 SE a couple of months back with FVSH & 95k on the clock. Fella I bought it from had it up for £2500 but got him down to £1900. Book price indicated by Parkers is approx £2700 mark. I hope that this is of help.

Hi Skid

It's only the basic trim so doesn't have a trip computer. My basic calculations suggest I'm getting 35 to 38mpg which isn't bad considering the car's size, auto transmission and the fact that 75% of mileage is my daily commute on twisty roads over the top of the Pennines.

It's noticably more economical if I have a decent motorway cruise in.
