SRS Light on MOT fail
Problem.
Several years ago I swapped the seats in my 99 S70 for some nice leather clad ones which turned out to be from an earlier car and the airbag connectors are different, hence the airbag light has been on ever since. Today she has failed the mot because all of a sudden srs lights have to go out and I am left with a problem, swap the seats out to some 99 spec ones or find some other way of making the light go out. worst is the interior is oak which seems to be the least popular colour ever so I dont hold out much hope of finding 99 spec oak leather seats any time soon. Any ideas? Andy

Hello,
Take a look at this posting, mikealder explains how to get round this I believe. A visit to Maplins, other high street electronic shops are avaliable, may just help. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=165019 Cheers |

I'd say that 2 hours per seat should be enough to switch the upholstery (done some in the past, yesterday also did one)-

Here in Germany you can get into a lot of trouble if after an accident with victims it comes out that the SRS system was tampered with. Civil and penal consequences can follow. For me it would not be worth it...

The older air bags will still go off so no issue there
You need 2 2ohm 10 watt resistors and the SRS light will then need turning off with dice then all will be ok If the red seatbelt warning throws a code you will need the newer style seatbelt buckle |

For decades we drove about in cars without airbag systems. Plus the main airbags would still work once the light was reset. The SRS inclusion in the mot is a new thing in the UK and the high repair cost could easily write off a lot of older cars that could still be cheap reliable transport for people. |

there's other ways that are more unscrupulous and none of the air bags would work at least with the resistor the working air bags will still fire electronically and the seats will fire as there on impact explosions
