Hi All

Please excuse ignorance!

Now that the weather in the UK (South East) has taken to about 8 degrees below during the night I have noticed that the 2 small rectangular plastic covers just below the headlamps have "slackened" and moved away from their location by about 5mm/8mm.

During the day when the temp rises they flex into the correct position!

I notice that they are on a rubber mounting which you can just see when they are in the "Slack" position.

So what is their job please.

Something to do with temperature no doubt, but what exactly?

All kinds of answers are possible I know, but please educate me.

They are the headlamp washers. They telescope out when you wash the headlamps and I suppose they may have some ice formation that stops them fully retracting.

You need stronger screen wash to stop them freezing up. (VERY strong!)

Thanks for your prompt replies, I feel rather silly now that you have explained
their use, its pretty obvious now.

Your tip re screen wash is appreciated.

Just to give you perspective my other car is a 1952 MG TD with opening windscreen.? and a 1936 MG PB, so what would I know about Headlamp Washers??

I've only just discovered the wheel!!

Regards

Russ
