S60 -05 2.5T Wont start.
Hi
English aint my main language so please keep in mind that i might write something wrong. I had yellow enginge light on car, located the fault with my vida (P0019). Took of the VVT Solenoid to check it, later i screw it back on. Dropped 1 screw into the timing belt area, tried searching 1 hour couldnt find it. Was thinking to myself that i just can go and get a new screw so i start the engine, realise that it comes out oil from the hole missing a screw. Took some paper to clean the oil off. Then i thought it might not come so much afterall so i start again with the paper still on the solenoid hole. Paper flew straight into the timingbelt area without me realising it. Got stuck in one of the gears. I pressed the gas a bit, engine dont sound that good i turn it off. I realise paper is stuck i get the paper out of the gear. At the same time i find the missing screw. I screw it back on and try to start the car again. But now it wont start at all. I upload a video but it will be gone in 2days https://streamable.com/6e9g6c And yes i know the award for stupidness is mine to claim... |

What does the P0019 code say exactly?
It sounds like the starter motor is turning but not engaging the ring gear (torque converter or flywheel). Are there any other codes now? How many miles are on this 2005? |

Camshaft Position, Exhaust. High Description: The engine control module (ECM) checks the angle of the camshaft (its position in relation to the crankshaft). If the exhaust camshaft's angle position deviates and is too high during adaption (camshaft is ahead of crankshaft), the Engine control module (ECM) will interpret this as a failure and store a diagnostic trouble code. The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) can be diagnosed when the engine is hot and the camshaft is in position Cause: Poor engine oil quality Incorrectly adjusted camshafts The timing gear belt has jumped off the cogs Damaged camshaft reset valve Mechanical fault in the variable valve timing (VVT) unit. The car started before i removed the VVT so i dont think that is the cause of the problem. There has to be something with the gears since paper was stuck, but to be fair i dont have a clue.. 24k miles. |

If you're saying something has got tangled in the belt while the engine was running it seems to me probably right thing now is do the belt again which will re do all the timing marks and make sure none of the cogs have jumped a tooth or two
Just my gut reaction though not based on previous experience |

A little update.
Realised that that the two upper gears was offset around 3-4 teeth. I fixed the problem but engine wont start (making same "noise" as before") Friend of mine said that it could probably be that the valves are damaged so the engine cant compress enough air to start. But it worked fine to turn the crank, wasnt hard at all. He is probably right cause i cant think of anything else that would stop working with my "accident" Or is it something that i might have missed? Last edited by rgoa; May 9th, 2024 at 20:13. |

one way to tell is get it looked at with a borescope. or do a compression test
possible you might have turned it into a large paperweight but fingers crossed maybe you just forget to connect something or damaged wire Last edited by stuart bowes; May 9th, 2024 at 20:28. |
