Weeellll, it seems not to be clear cut anymore.....
Stay of execution for now, so putting some time into making the old girl quieter on the motorways. I've started with sound deadening on the doors, makes huge difference to the sound when you close them, and also a fair change to driving along too. Gearshift foam replaced which helps a huge amount. Next stop is to check the operation of the viscous fan coupling, I suspect based on the turbine like noise it makes that it may well be stuck. Looking at electric fan options, but TBH at £30 for a new coupling will probably end up there..

Just as well I didn't part company quickly, as the V70 has sprung a hefty oil leak so off the road, and I need a big motor to collect 4 new doors for the V70 too. I think I'm just making excuses why it should stay....

Not new mind, but about half the age of Grace.
I'll do some pictures and add it to the for sale section in due course.
I've found that my Tors is perfect for long journeys provided maintenance is kept up. It stays very happily with motorway/main road traffic, and seems more or less effortless - and that's after 237,000 miles! I'd be very reluctant to change it, as the mechanic says, 'What would you get?'! At my age I hope the old girl will see me to the end of my driving days.

With reliability, I sometimes think what’s in my head is the problem, not the 240 I’m sat in!🤨👍

That's where I'm at really, if I change it will only be to a post 2005/6 petrol something, and with the joys of CANBUS and more complex bits 'n' bobs it just introduces more complexity.

And of course, nobody talks to you if you drive a modern eurobox. I collected some bike bits from a chap tonight, and he was amazed to see the 240. Turns out his parents had one etc etc, took photos to show his Mum and a 2 minute pick up of parts ended in a 20 minute chat about the car. Not going to get that with a Mondeo am I ....

A Volvo on a mission for another Volvo today! Early run from up town down to the New Forest in teh 240, to pick up a set of 4 doors for the V70! Been looking for a while to get at least a less damaged NSF door for the V70, but never found the right colour until the weekend.
Aside from keeping up with the usual M3 traffic, being comfortable and so easy to drive on the motorways, another one of those 'my parents had one of those' at the other end! Awesome.
Don't 'alf need a clean now though....

Gave the old girl a good clean today, still scrubs up well despite some old scuffs and scrapes from the previous owner. Took the opportunity to remove the viscous fan and go for a drive without it, made a noticeable difference and sooo much less noise. Unsurprisingly the old one is indeed seized which explains the slow warm up and sounding like a turbine along with feeling restricted at around 3000 rpm upwards. Something else on the to do list..

Cleans up well I think. I have new front discs and pads on route as the old ones are defo warped a bit.
Off to look at a Galaxy next week, so I do think the old girls days are numbered with me.

I now have a new (well, relatively, it's a 2007) Galaxy on the drive, so the 240 will soon be up for sale. New front discs and pads arrived today so I will get those changed over maybe next week.

Finally got the time to fit the front discs and pads, I reckon the old nes would have come up as an advisory next MOT time, so worth getting them done. Quite nice to have a relatively easy job to do for a change, and sure beats replacing a radiator on a V70R.....

Scrub up, photos and time to sell up. Not something I want to do, but I really want to focus on the Capri so I need the time and space.
