Default V70 2.5 TDI Maf Sensor

Hi all just joined the forum, bought a 1999 v70 2.5 tdi automatic ( audi engine ) which seemed to me to be poor performance and did'nt konw what gear to put itself in so scoured round the net and came to the conclusion it was the maf sensor, frightened me a bit as i thought this bit could be expensive so back on the net. discovered that the sensor is fitted to allsorts of different cars, down to the local scrapyard for a look, found a y reg rover 200 with the same one came home and swopped it ( bit Worried ) anyway fired it back up and all is back to normal having not had the original performance was very surprised at how nimble it is for a big car have posted a list of other cars that the sensor fits so it might help somebody else good luck

The auto can have problems with the ECU on the gear box, it goes into "slow get me home mode". This is cleared, sometimes by turning the engine off and back on again.

Have someone plug a diagnostic instrument into the car and read any fault codes. Did the faulty MAF sensor hit the fuel consumption?

Default Maf Sensor

Hi DieselDoNiceley got no fault codes stored but researched on net about it passing information to the gearbox ecu, someone else on the forum has looked in the same place as me but on a ford scorpio as regarding fuel figures it did slightly better with the faulty maf sensor fitted but it now has dropped slightly ( might be me buzzing it a bit harder as it no performs well ) reporting aroung 43 to gallon running local so still well pleased Cheers

I have just bought a 1998 V70 TDi which seems to be sluggish and thirsty. Not being mechanically minded I have read numerous posts and it would appear that maf sensor fault. Is the list on the above thread correct and would a maf sensor from any of the vehicles mentioned work on my car.
It appears to be opinion of the knowledgeable that cleaning the sensor is a waste of time.

Since your car is a '98 it may have either of the two types of MAF which were fitted to this engine. The early type with an MSA 15.7 ECU is a big mechanical/electric unit just after the air cleaner and is not common (and therefore expensive !) whereas the MSA 15.8 type is a much smaller electronic system which I suspect is what the earlier posts refer to. If you look on the SKANDIX site both types are pictured so at least you will know which type you've got.
I don't know if the information in the original post is correct but, since no-one has complained it isn't, as long as the numbers on your existing MAF match what you find in the scrappers you should be OK.

Best of luck

John
