Default Help 80,0000 mile service

I have a 1998 1.9td V40 and Volvo have just quoted £330 for the 80,000 mile service.
On enquiry this is a "standard service + oils and filters"

My reply "That seems rather a lot for a basic service, are you sure thats all you do?"

Response "It breaks down to £121 for labour the rest is oils and filters"

Now I think £330 is close to extortion, it's absolutely criminal to charge this for very basic maintenance procedures.

Does any one have the service sheet for the 80,000 mile service so I can get a mechanic I trust to work on the vehicle. (I have a very good mechanic lined up, just need to know if anything special needs doing)

Oh, by the way. I have used my local "independent Volvo specialist" and he is only about 10% cheaper than the franchised dealer. I also don't trust him as he made a hash of the servicing last time.

80,000 should also be cam belt etc.

That is extortion for the oils and filters (I paid 170 euros for my last, albiet 'small', service at a franchised garage).

You are lucky you do not live in "rip-off Britain". All motoring costs are high here.

Volvo in the UK is perceived as a premium brand and the dealerships charge premium prices for servicing and parts.

I bought the Volvo to decrease my motoring costs doing 30,000 miles in a 25mpg 4x4.

The Volvo only does 42mpg (I don't thrash it, 80miles on the motorway everyday), that is rubbish for a modern diesel. My old Montego would do 45mpg with the accelerator hard to the floor, 60mpg on the type of jouney I do now. The servicing costs (non franchised) will be about £400 more than that on the 4x4 for the year, the insurance is higher too!

It's not making such good economic sense anymore!!!!

I travel 90 miles to my dealer. In Holland (not the Netherlands in general) you pay thorugh thenose for everything. My sister in law has just paid 900 euros for a cambelt service at a non franchised, non volvo specialist garage. Her last small serive was 700, although that did include tyres. The same garage charged me 500 euros for a small service with rear brake pads. I'm happy to travel the 90 miles each way for the service I get from Sneek Volvo.

And believe it or not, at least you get cheaper petrol in the UK than Holland, doing 60 miles a day really adds up. I prefer to use my bike to be honest, 70+mpg, 911 turbo beating performance, and no traffic jams.

Regards

Stu
