Default Looking for recommended lpg mechanic in or near birmingham:

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good, experienced, lpg mechanic or company in the West Midlands (preferably south Birmingham, Solihull way)?

My lpg system has packed up (already). Just bought the car 20th December and it already had the conversion. Ran fine for a while, but has now developed noticeable loss of power and a strange (loud) whirring, sucking, noise whilst accelerating (together with noisy idling).

Is a Zavoli Zeta/S system if that's of any use. The original conversion is probably still under warranty as it was only done last August, but it was done by Alternative Motoring Solutions in Gt Yarmouth - which is a tad far to take it back to. I need a reliable place to take it to in my area.

Any advice / help all gratefully received,

Default Good guys in the LPG business

Sounds like your pressure relief valve is knackered - I only know this because it's happened to me - twice!

Do you get a strong smell of LPG whilst this is happening?

If you do get an LPG pong DO NOT drive the car on gas. The pressure relief valve is venting gas into the engine bay.

Autogas 2000 in Thirsk, North Yorks, are the best in the LPG business. Too far from you for a visit, but if you give them a ring on 01845 523213, or e-mail them at info@autogas.co.uk, or Google them for their website, they will put you in touch with one of their approved installers.

Cheers

Jack

Hi Jack,

Do you know, is the pressure relief valve on the lpg system, or part of the Volvo engine?

Kind thanks,

Default LPG fault

I found the Zavoli main importers are actually in Birmingham, which was rather useful (HKL-Gaspower).

The problem was the regulator. A quick change (and £185 notes later) and the problem has gone. The chaps there said someone (presumably the installers) had played with the pressure setting and that was likely what made it go so quickly. They said they'd not seen one go so quick before.
