volvo xc60 d4 cuts out 2014
Hi All,
I have a 2014 volvo xc60 D4 with 100k on the clock It has a randon cutting out issue which is getting worse When I am approaching a stop the engine will cut out and then try and restart, then cut out again. Sometimes it will restart ok and idle fine but as soon as I try and accelerate to move away it just cuts out again. If you can gently coax it back up to speed it is ok again untill you have to come to a halt once more. Makes it very difficult to do a hill start. No Fault codes :-( If I turn off stop start makes no difference If I monitor the fuel rail pressure I can see it is perfectly normal at idle and when it is working fine all good. However when it is in its fault condition the fuel rail pressure is just dropping away and then it stalls. The reason it stalls is definately due to dropping fuel rail pressure I have changed the fuel filter and checked the fuel supply to the high pressure pump loads of fuel comming through at good pressure definately no problems with fuel supply to the high pressure pump. I have disconnected the EGR valve made no difference, blanked off the EGR valve made no difference, swapped out the EGR valve for a used one of unknown condition initially I thought this made it allot worse but then after putting the original back in it seemed better initially but then was bad again shortly after. So I am a bit stumped. Have a niggling doubt that it is a faulty EGR valve but given the above hard to justify. Favorite thought is the fuel rail pressure control valve Any thoughts very welcome ????? |

Did you get this sorted? Similar problem here, but it's gone completely dead with no fuel at the injectors. It had a new fuel tank lift pump only 16 months ago, garage hasn't finsihed their work yet, but that's their next port of call.

Hi
Did you both get this issue sorted? I'm having the same issue. ECU cutting out fuel when cranking, so HP pump is not sending fuel to common rail Thanks

Hi
My car is now sorted. The issue I had was...I had not done the priming correctly, therefore there were lots of air in the fuel line. I did the key On and OFF cycle for over 20 times (as advised by Volvo) and then car started straight away. If you remove any fuel system line (like a hose or a banjo bolt or high pressure pipe etc), it sucks air in then stops sending fuel to common rail. When you turn the key to ON (ignition on) and if you have air then you could hear fuel flowing in there inside the fuel filter housing under rear passenger seating location. So you have to prime until you hear nothing but whining noise. This is achieved by above method, ON and then OFF Cheers
