However it was a bit slow to respond so only of any real use when idling to get that CO figure down for the tree-huggers that wanted to see less than 0.5% CO (i believe the KE-Jet cars were 0.5%CO and passable even on a cat test at that - also the B200F has an exemption for not passing at 0.3% which is the figure for most other cat-equipped cars from 1/1/92 onwards) but i'm not sure if Volvo offered the KE-Jet on the 240 which is what your link refers to, especially as the 240 was destined to go out of production during 1992, if not sooner.

I think they (240s) were made up until about July 92 in the end but only "by popular demand" so to speak.

The 740s also went out of production about the same time as the 240s so in 1992 the only option was a 940 with LH-2.4 Jetronic equipped with a cat and Lambda sensor.

Given the OPs car is a 1991 and a 940, the chances of it being a B200E with KE-Jetronic are fairly slim, much more likely to be a B200F which was more or less the default fitment to 2.0 740s by then as well.

Going back to the main subject of the thread, as i pointed out in my first post or two, best way is to fit a new timing belt and see what's what.
we didn't have that in the UK .. USA Spec i assume ...

I've seen a few UK cars with it, from the time Volvo were offering a free "upgrade" to a catalytic converter with "LambdaSond" which is only swedish for Lambda Sensor.
Luckily most sensible owners opted for the straight K-Jet, not the KE-Jet.

There was never KE jetronic on the UK market it was for USA , mainly the V6 models .There were a few V6 models over here owned by the USAF when they were over here at the time . (late 80's )

In the UK The "lambdasond" badged late 700/900 range went straight from K jetronic to Motronic/ LH Jetronic for the 1990 model year .. In the UK anyway which is my speciality having worked on them for the last 45 years on a professional basis. I certainly don't remember doing any "free upgrades " on new cars or as a recall ...
There we some strange USA versions for the Californian emission regulations in the late 80's which also applied to the Delorians of the time. The wiring diagram for those are in the volvo manuals of that age . there was an injector in the fuel return line which they used to lower the fuel pressure in the Control pressure regulator hence increasing the mixture strength quite well in response to the lambda sensor . I never came across one of those .

To clarify .... in the UK the Lambda Sond badge on the front grille and word 'Catalizer' on the tailgate below the model designation was first introduced in the UK on 1 Jan 1990 on the 700 Series when the free option to upgrade the engine management system to Bosch Jetronic LH2.4 with B2xxF engines was introduced.

At its last MOT in August the emissions test result on my 31+ year old 745 still on the original Cat was CO 0.16% and HC 48ppm against a permitted 3.5% and 1200ppm under the then prevailing old rules applicable to 1990 cars.

The USAF are still here, regularly flying from next door to me! The KE-Jetronics i saw ~25-30 years back were all UK original cars and were having trouble passing the MoT because the electronic part was playing up. Usually poor eaerths on/around the control pressure regulator but a few Lambda sensors as well. Bear in mind the newest would have been 5-6 years old and the oldest a couple of years more than that at the time.

These days they would simply pass the BET as Bob alludes to, my 760 showed 0.6% and 80ppmHC on a recent emissions test, no cats or Lambda sensors in sight! Still had to remind the tester that it was a very good pass and nowhere near a fail, just waiting to put my other beast in that despite being 1994 and having a cat, has a dispensation (which can be found on the database used by the testing machine) for only having to pass the BET test instead.
