Injector on order
My local Volvo dealer is supplying a new injector (not recon- I asked) graded to match the others. The price is £245 Inc VAT which seems very reasonable and only £5 more than I was charged by the independent specialist for an ungraded recon injector from Bosch.
I called German and Swedish who supplied the recon one and they confirmed the injectors supplied are ungraded and match the Bosch specification not Volvo and only a single part number for my model . So for anyone needing to replace message is go for Volvo. The independent has agreed to fit the new injector for free on Sat and refund his injector if knocking is resolved however he is still insistent in his opinion it's not an injector problem.. But he's not about to drive to France.. I will also ask for an injector test using VIDA. Will update after Sat! |

volvo specialist
having only used my local volvo dealer up to now I actually found this specialist from another forum not as a recommendation specifically but in a list of specialist volvo independent garages. He only deals with volvo and describes himself as a volvo specialist on his web site. I am very surprised with his incomplete knowledge - he said he used to use volvo injectors but stopped because non volvo was cheaper and he hasnt had problems before..
if I was a cynical person I could conclude that as trade he can possibly pick up the bosch un-graded recon injectors for about £100 trade in and then he could charge £200+vat for a 'new' injector (the amount I was charged) put the volvo part number on the invoice (like my invoice) , put a volvo graded plastic cap on the injector (as with my car) and only mention that its a recon if challenged.. but ...I'm not that cynical.. it was only a stupid comment from the service manager at my local dealer that made me look elsewhere, I will be back at the dealer for the next service as I have never had a problem with their work |

I have just picked up the new injector today from VOLVO the actual price was £271 + VAT including a £25 surcharge on the old injector - this was more than quoted but does include the pipe and fittings.
Surprisingly it does not show clearly it is a type 2 injector but volvo parts have assured me that is what it is. I have had some confusion over part numbers so for anyone else that is looking into this the parts set (inc pipe and fittings for cylinder 5) is 36000288 The injector box is labelled 30777314 as is the injector itself - this is for a type 2 injector for a 2003 D5. Interestingly the finish is different from the bosch unit recently fitted on my car - Volvo is dark grey and the bosch is a shiny gold colour. Its getting fitted Sat.. |

Mike, thanks for your post it's much appreciated.
If I understand the test it is measuring the speed of the flywheel after each compression up to the next and then using this to calculate an injector correction where .1mm2 of fuel equates to approximate 2RPM. A couple of questions if I may.. are these correction factors just a diagnostic calculation or are they applied by the ECU, if so is this a special function in VIDA when first setting up or something that is automatic? Secondly do you have any data on what the accepted range is eg. +\- 20rpm 1mm2 fuel? Is your engine fitted with type 2 injectors? Thanks again for your support I will post again with my results tomorrow.. Thanks again, I will get the same test done tomorrow |

fixed
Well the new volvo injector (graded to match the others) has been fitted and during 90mins of driving today despite my best efforts I couldn't identify any unusual noises at all even when starting from cold. So the Volvo injector has sorted out the knocking.
Thanks again Mike for your posts from VIDA. The independent mechanic was clearly stressed with me watching and asking questions but courteous, throughout (through gritted teath - especially when in response to his comment that he could have got me a discount from the dealer as he spends 1500 a week with them on parts I respectfully pointed out that paying the full main dealer parts price for a new injector, pipes and fittings was still £40 cheaper than he charged me for a reconditioned injector and fuel pipe). He could not wait to get me out of his workshop. I asked him to connect up to VIDA to test, he reluctantly agreed but said that there was no injector test available and all they could check was the fuel pressure and airflow to each cylinder - I disagreed and walked over to get your printouts and in this time the diagnostic kit had been disconnected with fuel pressure being confirmed as okay and I was being handed the keys to go. So apologies that I have no data to post here. I am thinking that I may get a 2008 VIDA kit from ebay for about £300 for future reference, then with a flow back kit I can self diagnose any future similar issues.. Anyway thanks to all who have posted - I am pleased that with the help of the forum the car is sorted, , and fingers crossed I dont have any difficulty getting the refund that has been promised next week. |

i can understand where the chap is coming from and not all customers have the information that you had.garages do not like being questioned FACT. i am glad you have it sorted and hope that the car will now behave itself for awhile.

Injectors classes
Hi! I just want to know. What does make the difference between injector classes? Are the calibration shims? If yes, which class got them thicker? What else could be?
