Front subframe bush inserts.
As per the title, I fitted Powerflex bush inserts a few days ago and can say with certainty that the vague steering that I could feel has gone.
Fitting them was really easy too. Well worth doing in my opinion.

Yup. They're good but poly-bushing the control arms is where you'll really feel a difference.

I fitted new front suspension shocks and upper mounts yesterday too, but there is still a slight knocking noise which I had hoped would be cured by the new parts. The drop links are fairly new as well as the top engine mount being Poly. I will have to take a look at the bottom mount, although that's only a couple of years old. The inner track rods are new too. The only other culprit, I guess, could be engine mounts, although it doesn't seem like it could be them. It really is a pain tracking down these noises. Oil & filter change today, then I will see where I go from there. Cheers.

Drop links how long ago?
Examples which are "less than the best" can age rapidly. |

Last year, they are still stiff and as good as new, thanks.

As the knocking noise was still apparent, I decided to undo the front upper drop links and tie them back for a test run up and down my drive. My reasoning was that if the noise was from the anti roll bar, the test would prove it. The upshot is that the noise disappeared, point proven. However, when I refitted the drop links, despite being fairly new, one of them had a tear in the bottom rubber seal and that joint was actually loose. So, I've ordered a full set of heavy duty ones. Let's hope that's the last of the knocking.

Good finding the source of the noise.
One odd word of caution. When I replaced mine I didn't tighten the nuts enough. A test drive was rattly-as-hell. Sure enough, that last 1/3 turn was enough to silence my new links. It was an educational and humiliating experience in one! I suppose I was tired as this was at the end of a strut cartridge replacement job. |

No worries, I'll have the torque wrench on it.

If you can find this product, it helps with tightening and especially removing these end link nuts www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg8e5vKdgbI

Final update on the knocking noise.
I just changed all 4 drop links with the heavy duty items, I figured I might as well replace the lot whilst I was at it. It took me just 50 minutes to complete all 4 and after a quick test drive I can happily say that the suspension is now quiet. Happy days at last.
