Hello,

Got a bit an issue I could do with help with. I have an 07 D5 with 150k on the clock - never given me any issues other than general mechanical maintenance. The car has also gone into sort of a limp mode - it is very slow from a standing start but I can get up to decent speeds given a little bit more time than usual.

I did an oil change a couple of weeks ago and soon after got the 'Engine Service Required' message. A search on here suggested that filling the oil to maximum could be the issue. I have drained enough oil out so that the level is now somewhere about half way between max and min on the dip stick - driven for a couple of days including a blast up the motorway but no change.

Dropped the car into my local garage who checked the codes (as I did not drop the car in I do not have the exact codes at hand) and has told me that there were about eight stored but they looked to point towards the throttle body.

I have removed the throttle body, de coked it and the EGR valve - both were absolutely caked in oily soot. Reassembled but it but no different. Thought I might be onto something as the throttle body butterfly valve was sticking and I did find some wear on the plastic sprockets inside it.

My first question then is, how can I test the throttle body? Can it be tested using an ammeter?

My second question is has anyone experienced this or been through this issue before? Any help from the forum is much appreciated.

Incidentally, I travel to Cornwall in about a week so am kind of under pressure - would rather not take it in perfect running condition.

Thanks, Simon.

Not sure about the throttle body but I do like your edit of your location to overcome the Scunthorpe problem....

You can activate and view the throttle position with it in situ using Dice and Vida. https://youtu.be/DR3hu8XFhIg
