Default Central Locking N/S unlock issue

My 2005 model 2004 registered C70 2.0T Cabriolet has been suffering from a near side central locking issue where by the locking pin/lever/button has staggered upward on unlocking with the key fob. It now fails to rise and unlock the door on using the fob: it locks on pushing the lock button on the key fob and unlocks when pulling the internal handle.

Unlocking via the door electronic button fails, but locking functions work normally - on depressing the unlock button on the key fob, I can hear the servo operating, but the button refuses to rise - I had a similar problem whereby the O/S door was very difficult to open, but which I have managed to resolve by using Plus Gaz followed by PTFE enriched spray oil and graphite spray oil.

The lack of N/S unblock operation has only appeared after last week's MOT, which I am very pleased to say was passed with only split lower ball joint gaiter advisories on both sides....after 19 years not a great surprise even though the car has only done 41.3K.

Have any other members suffered similar problems and can anyone tell me how I might resolve the issue?

Help and advice would be appreciated.

Hi Ast85

I don't have access to a C70 right now.

But what happens if you leave the nearside/passenger door open, then try to lock and unlock?
If it then locks that might at least point to a physical/friction problem between the lock and the catch on the body. Hope that make sense. You might be able to adjust the strike.

If it still doesn't lock then I suppose it might be that the resistance in the circuit going through the contacts in the drivers door switch and across through the loom in the nearside door jamb to the nearside door lock is sufficient to prevent that lock from locking. If there is no break in the loom or a bad connection where the loom goes into the door, then I might suspect the drivers door switch contacts (you could try cleaning them). If you have a spare switch unit you could try that. I believe a V70 switch will work (except that the boot lock is treated differently).

Last resort would be to replace the lock. (You can't really repair much except to clean and lube it).

Thank you for the insight - everything works as normal apart from the unlock function in the N/S lock, i.e. it does not unlock even if the unlock fob button is pushed with the door open and the lock button down.

There is some vibrational movement in the stalk but it fails to rise, which would suggest a lack of power at the contacts or possibly a failing coil in the solenoid/servo.

All the other locks work perfectly, it may well be that a removal and clean sorts the problem, but as you say, in all probabilty a new lock is likely to be the easiest solution.

I'll try reading the codes with a DiCE at the weekend when I should have a little more time - at least it will rule out some of the options.

Thanks again
Alan
