Clutch fitment concerns
I have a 2005 S40 T5 AWD in need of a new clutch. I am really unhappy with the OEM clutch for the S40 and have heard of people installing a clutch from an 06-07 S60R. From what I have seen on the forums it is possible, however I have a few questions.
1. Will the S60R clutch be a direct fit for the S40 M66 transmission? 2. I also want to replace the DMF with an SMF, is this an issue when pairing with the S60R clutch and the S40 transmission? 3. What seals and or other preventative repairs should be performed while the transmission is dropped? As you can tell, I'm a little lost, any help is greatly appreciated. |

I cannot specifically advise you on the points you mention, however I am not a fan of fitting SMFs where a DMF was originally specified. Even the manufacturers of the conversion parts (Valeo, LuK etc) admit they're a compromise and, while I have not experienced what has been written about in terms of broken crankshafts, TVDs or gearboxes, you can generally tell when a SMF has been retrofitted due to the additional NVH through the vehicle (interestingly, most obvious on VW 1.9TDI installations). I say, OK on a commercial to convert but spoils a car.
