Used to work in Jessops camera shop and always found it very amusing when people would phone up the shop and when answered would ask if we were open today !!! Err yeah otherwise no-one would have answered lol

Also when I was driving for stagecoach and people would ask how long the next bus would be I couldn't resist answering "about 30ft m8!!"

......................sorry I'll get my coat

Never been asked a stupid question work related tbh, I think the wierdest one was when I was working in my old job for a food company, delivering to hotels etc, was unloading outside Jury's Inn in Edinburgh and this guy came up to the back of the truck and asked in broken english "eeeh, I , I look for, ca, ca,, the ca" , I've already got the directions from where we are up the royal mile to the castle in my head ready to tell him and he says. " ca...ca ,, carlisle" , WTF lol. I actually did manage to give him the correct directions to Carlisle, in 5 steps from the sreet Jury's inn is on to to Carlisle, but still, talk about being off course lol.

NB - people with no knowledge of Scotlands geography will not get this

Talking

I was on duty in my signal box one morning, I had a train approaching and my level-crossing barriers were down and the red lights were flashing. The emergency phone from this crossing rang in the signal box............
"Hello, Signalman speaking".
"ello, ....can you tell me if a train is.......
NEE NAW...WHOOSH....Clickety-clack...Clickety-clack.
coming?"

Does that answer your question sir?

Never heard anymore.
Dave.

Smile Question / statement?

In my previous life as a cop, an intoxicated youth called me a fat old bas****. Although not a silly question, it was a silly presumption. Fat - yes. Bas****, eventually proved! Old....... NEVER. Relulting in court as drunk and disbledlyed, or something your worship. Paul

Someone who probably (mercifully) isn't a member of this forum would have a good story to tell about a customer (me) in Wickes who approached him one day during the summer and started asking a lot of detailed questions about which brackets and bolts might be best for securing a certain arrangement of bits and pieces designed to hold up a tree house of the customer's own design. The customer was most enthusiastic about his project and showed off his drawings and described the plans in painful detail. The person I was speaking to was incredibly helpful, and offered all sorts of useful advice.... before saying, "By the way, mate, I should probably tell you that I don't actually work here - I'm just shopping..."

Back in the bad old days...

Me: "I'm afraid if you did that it would leave you liable to £16 million of tax..."

Client: "Is that bad news?"
