Default Rain Repellents

One of the annoying things about a saloon compared to a hatchback, I have an S40, is the lack of a rear wiper. To combat this I am going to get one of the rain repellents that are on the market, Rain-X etc, and put it on the rear and side windows. I have seen a few wary comments about putting it on the windscreen so I am going to give that a miss.

Has anyone used this type of item before and do you have any advice about preparation of the glass and application? Thanks.

if you have a Lidl near to you, I suggest you go in there and get there version which is called nano-tech.
Alot cheaper, and works a treat

Used Rain-X on all screens and mirrors. Good results simple to apply and worth the bother. Best to make sure your screens are clean first - follow manufacturer's instructions.

Good reports on other forums about the Lidls Nano tech, Rain ex also good you can use on the screen no prob just make sure its cleaned and you follow the instructions precisely, trouble is it does not last long.

But the daddy of the all "Duxback" use all round lasts over 6 months hard work to apply and not cheap but the results are worth it.

Used on high power Merc's BMW and Maserati as standard

I was a keen fan of Rain Wizard, it was far better than Rain-X until they stopped making it!! I've since moved onto

http://www.autobestbuy.co.uk/shop/pr...--PT_ID-90.asp

Followed by a good smearring of

http://www.autobestbuy.co.uk/shop/pr...--PT_ID-97.asp

It has won the autoexpress test as its a good compromise between easy application & resiliance.

I have noticed my front side windows came pretreated with a repellent but I have done the others including the windscreen. Which I hasten to add is the best thing I've done.

After reading about Duxback I think I'll give it a go in the future.

Thanks for the comments on which items to use. Any tips on how to get the glass clean beforehand. Anything to use, equally anything I should avoid? Would washing up liquid be okay for example? I don't particularly want to buy a specialist glass cleaner unless past experience would suggest that is the way to go.

Helifella's link to the Comma Glass scrub is a good one used it before and it gets rid of all the contaminants before applying a treatment.

I know not to use it on paintwork but does it do the job on glass? I obviously need to get the glass as clean as possible as the better the base the better the surface to apply the liquid on. Women seem to recommend a mixture of water and vinegar for general glasswear and this could work as well. I was looking to see what other people did before they applied the repellent.

The ONLY other product i'd use on my windows to clean them is methilated spirits. Alcohol based really gets rid of greesy grime.
