Default EGR valve

Hello,

I have read a lot about EGRs and I thought I understood it but after replacing an EGR in my 2002 v40 1.9TDi, I get the following code:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Diesel (D4192T3 - EDC 15C3 - MT/AT)
DTC Description
1814 - EGR valve
- Intermittent
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I doubt that it is an EGR, since I just put a new one in. Could this be the air sensor? Doesn't the air sensor have its own fault code? Could this be a leak in the air pipes maybe? What shall I be looking for please?

Thanks in advance,

Mac

The MAF sensor has its own fault code and an air leak in the induction or exhaust system would not cause a code.

I would take a good look at the plug and socket of the EGR valve to see if the connection is good.

Hope you did not fit something from Fleabay, as it needs a real Pierburg EGR.

Thanks for your reply.

Makes sense. I will check the plug next. The part I bought is a Renault part. Description attached. It's a cheap one.

Not the good type is possible .I doubt a bad connection ,I removed the plug from the connection and have no error for 6 months. But the particulate filter does not like it.I will clean the EGR as soon as I can enter my workplace, a new filter is expensive and removing them no longer a option as the MOT checks it now.

Disconnecting the EGR is not a good option. Another thing I noticed, when I changed my EGR was, that the car lost power. Before I felt a kick past 2000 rpm, now it's closer to 2700 rpm. I was thinking an air leak or fuel filter, but that would not trigger the EGR fault code, so it must be the EGR, mustn't it?

Is all airtight closed? Does the EGR close properly? The power lost came after changing the EGR so there must be a leak between inlet and exhaust.I tried again today connecting the EGR and running the motor and than disconecting the plug and starting. No engine error on the dash.Did not try ODB readout.
