Thanks for your reply.
It's nice to get a common sense answer for a change. I will get in contact to discuss things furthur. One thing I did spot from the previous posts in the thread was something about unemployed people. At the moment I am not working. I am looking after 2 children and my partner works full time. We decided to do this for a number of reasons but if I had had the better more secure job I would probably be the one at work. I ask as this came up when asking another company and I really can't see why it would be a problem, especially if the policy was paid in full. While it might not be a problem I can't see insurers trying the same thing with a Mum who doesn't work they would get strung up ! Its very useful being able to ask these questions, trying to do it all on the phone is a real pain and if nothing els expensive. Thanks again for your help. |

we would record you as a 'house husband' for this so it wouldn't be an issue, please do come through to me by PM when you are ready and I will arrange a call back. Insurers view unemployed drivers as high risk as they carry a much higher claims/loss ratio than a driver in employment, it is as simple as that, as ever insurance risks are dictated by statistics. Again a sensible answer. Another company I got a quote from refused point blank to insure me as I wasn't working.
I have to say it is a very unfair situation for those who have been made redundant and can't get a job, hopefully individuals situations are taken into account and not everone without work is classed the same way. To be honest I would be surprised if many out of work people can actually afford to insure a car anyway so perhaps they aren't as out of work as they say. Thanks. |

can't remember where i read the article (it was few months ago) but the whole unemployed thing brought it back to me .
this was regarding the use of what they called the "name game" wherein the same job would be given different quotes dependent on how you desribe your job i.e unemployed becomes "house wife/husband" curious thing i've just discovered on a quick unsuccessful search for said article is that even your name can give you a better/worse quote!!!! hxxp://ezinearticles.com/?The-Name-is-the-Game-For-Car-Insurance&id=1007099 |

I'm not sure if I posted at the time, but I'm insured with Sky on one of my cars. They couldn't beat my best price on another, but the knowledge-of-subject the chap on the phone displayed was impressive.
cheers James

Hi,
we've had a major review of postcodes, many previous restrictions and exclusions have been relaxed but I'm afraid to say that 'M', 'L' 'BL' and 'OL' and still excluded areas for us via our car club scheme. Thanks
