Answering your question, normally no. It has done that a few times when was raining, including the other day. It jumped probably as high as 2000+. But only did that a few times. If it's related to rain and humidity, it's normal, sunce we are having severe draughts.

the rotor looks ok .
If the engine goes to 1500 rpm on its own and runs so slow that it is rough maybe the idle speed control valve and throttle position sensor is not set up properly or dirt around the throttle flap is restricting air flow .

The other day i took the intake hose to clean the throttle butterfly but it looked super clean.

On the distributor cap, the center contact with the spring seems to get stuck in the cap. Now that I cleaned a bit, looks better. But this shouldn't get stuck should it?
Btw, cap is Bosch and doesn't look very old.

no it shouldn't just work it with the finger many times until it springs outward freely .

It's much looser now. But if i press it it does get stuck. I imagine rotor never presses it that much though.

Is it supposed to have that gap? Or am I missing something?

yes :-)

can you get a paint brush and hot soapy water to wash it out and let dry , I see no tracking or burning there though , That is the original Volvo specification one with lacquered internals to prevent tracking , the standard Bosch don't have that .
