Default 1995 850t5 2.3automatic estate for sale?

I have just bought a rather lovely car as above ,blue colour ,leather interior, mot june 14,tax end july,170,000 miles, good condition ,in regular use, with good alloys and tyres.Although not seen it in the flesh yet.
Will be driving it home 100 miles so will be able to report more then.
My basic intention is to break it for spares for you forum people.
It will stand me in at about £400,and that is honest.
But it seems to me it might be worth a bit more to an enthusiast.
Contact me if interested.
I will keep it for a week or two anyway, before I have time to dismantle it
Cheers Richard.

Default report on an 850 t5

I have just collected my t5 estate and it is indeed a lovely car, fast and surprisingly economical at about 36 mpg over 140 miles of unimpeded motoring .
Everything appears to work as it should, all dash lights show and go out correctly, which is pretty good for a car nearly twenty years old.
I have decided that it is far too good to break and I am going to do the necessary repairs and refurbishments and then sell it to someone who would appreciate it and could afford to run it ,which I cannot.
I will replace the slightly leaky radiator with a good one I have in stock, replace the rather perished bushes in the rear suspension as noted in its last advisories ,do a little cosmetic work here and there ,and get it a new mot ,with ,if at all possible, no advisories. And of course give it a good service.
If you would be interested in purchasing this car when it is finished ,please get in touch.
It has done 173,000 and the cam belt was done at 166,000
Cheers ,

Nice to hear that you are keeping the car where it should be, on the road and being used.
Too many being broken at the drop of a hat.

Yes,even callous old me could not break this up .Unfortunately, it is too expensive for me to insure,, even for test mileage.I have not had insurance of my own for many years now,so no active no claims.
Anybody got any suggestions of someone who might give me affordable insurance?
I think I may have to go down the single day insurance route, as I did yesterday,to bring it home .
Anyway,no hurry ,just yet, as it is certain to be in the the workshop for a few weeks now.
Will keep you posted ,will probably have questions to ask.

Oban must surely be one of the lowest risk areas in the world I'd imagine. If so, premiums shouldn't be loaded for the area.

How old are you (you don't actually have to answer that, just a rough "over 25, over 30, over 40").

How long have you been driving?

Any points on licence?

Are you named on another policy and do you drive said vehicle regularly?

Do you have a company vehicle (as opposed to a pool vehicle)?

What have you been quoted for a T5?

Sorry for all the questions but there may be options for you depending on what you deem to be too expensive.

Regards

Thank you for your interest.
Well ,I am 66 and have been driving on full licence for forty six years and have only ever had three points which expired many years ago.
I have been a named driver on my partners policy for approximately ten years since I ceased to have a policy of my own .
I have only so far got a quote from Adrian Flux ,who claim to be specialist insurers ,and I restricted my mileage to under 5000.
I tried them because of volvo owners club and because my friend was insured by them for £150 for a Reliant Scimitar ,and he has just served a six month ban for careless driving!
Adrian Flux quoted me £445 for TPFT only and seem to have asked around a bit.
I am not desperate because the car is in the shop now for a while for repair and refurb. ,but it would be handy to be able to road test the car.,or any subsequent car I happen to get hold of.
I think £200 odd pounds would be about right for the risk .
What do you think?

Default got insurance for t5 !

Have looked further and got a low mileage quote from aviva through quotezone on the voc site for £244 including RAC Roadside (which might be handy!) .Got it to start mid April, when I should have done my work on the car .
So I have taken it and should be good for road trials in due course !
Thats more like it!
Happy days!

Brilliant - I'm chuffed you managed to get a better price. You now have the freedom to enjoy the cars you're working on.

I used to work in the insurance industry so would have been able to give you some pointers on who to approach depending on your circumstances,

Some brokers will match your partners NCB (or will at least apply an introductory discount equal to a few years NCB) as long as you're named on the policy and can provide proof of said NCB.

Having said that, the price you've got of £244 INCLUSIVE of RAC is pretty darn good, especially as you've got no NCB. I wouldn't expect anything below £200 so with the inclusion of breakdown you're more or less bang on with anything available.
