unless I've forgotten how to maths.. guessing the measurement from center of hub to bolts is around 80mm (tbc) then the shim would have to be 1.1mm to correct 0.8deg
surely that's not outside the realms of possibility to wedge in between that darker brown part and the lighter grey larger part wondering if holes would need to be widened to allow the slight change to the angle of the bolts to not risk bending the bearing carrier part but that seems unlikely to me |

That doesn't sound like a good plan.
You would be putting a point load on the hub at the washers/bolts, instead of the hub being flat against the subframe. I'm not an engineer but I wouldn't want that on my car. I think you're worrying unduly. Do you know what the spec is for the car, and how far out of range it is? As a point of interest, here's an alignment of my previous V70 T5. This was on a high end Hunter machine after a full front and rear end rebuild. You'll see Camber is more negative than yours but was within range. May be different spec on T5. I don't know.

Ah ok that's interesting, thanks
my readout looks identical, it was a big red machine with flashing red lasers at each side lol for whatever that's worth my left rear camber shows up red on the 'after' measurements yours is more negative, but then the difference between the two is very slightly less at 0.76 difference when mine is 0.8 maybe that's something to do with it, just over a certain threshold or something ok I'll scrap the shim idea then I'll just keep an eye on the tyre wear over the next 6months/year then I suppose |

actually no I don't even know where to look for that, I was just going by the readout being red

Here's a table from a Volvo tech bulletin with the Camber specs. This is referenced in Vida.
So from this, you are 0.04 deg out of range. Not something I'd be chasing. My V70 T5 had lowered suspension so was within spec for that set-up even though more negative than yours.

0.06 / 0.07 (total 0.14) the rear camber didn't show up as an issue before when I had it done about 3-4 months ago.. but looking at the readings above it seems that adjusting the toe does have an effect on camber as well slightly, so maybe him adjusting the toe this time just put it into the red? the toe being out was probably my fault anyway, I was messing about with taking the spring out on that side and did it by removing the lower swing arm. which I know realise has an eccentric bolt that changes the toe Last edited by stuart bowes; Aug 21st, 2021 at 21:48. |
