Clock spring
Need to replace the clock spring on my 2007 xc90.
Is it worth looking at a 2nd hand one from a breakers or do I just suck up the cost and buy new. |

I replaced mine with one from a breaker, no problems afterwards. As with most used parts, I would only buy from a known reliable breaker who 'claims' to have tested first and has a refund policy.

Hi Liam,
I chose to change mine for new unit bought from frf Volvo. You will see threads on this forum from members who have stripped and cleaned them or replaced with second hand. It appears there are optics in the unit that can either get dirty or deteriorate. I wanted mine changed by my indie and to be sure it was fixed 100% at the first opportunity. You need to be sure you get the correct part, I understand they changed about 2006. This is why I purchased via frf giving vin details. My indie charged me £40 to fit and it took about 20mins. Inynoponion, good value for their experience! Hope this helps |

Most of them suffer from dust and dirt in the optics, acquired through age.
So if you change your old one for another old one... well... you still have an old one
