2006 S60 D5 Auto

1) Pulling away from lights 'CLICK' (when 'somethings' taking up the slack)

2) Approaching a junction / Red lights - auto gear box works its way down the gears until 2nd and 1st gears where you get a 'CLICK.....CLICK' sound.

I'm no mechanical wizard......does this sound like the drive shaft bolt prob which can be fixed with XC90 bolts or something more sinister?

I would suggest for issue (1) new bolts would remedy the issue......any ideas about no (2)????

New Boy,

Dan.

Hi I have the S60 - D5 - Manual -- 2006
-- and that is exactly what the sounds were with mine.
Both notes 1) & 2).
Cured by the fitting of the XC90 bolts.

Was well worth getting it fixed -- just for the peace of mind etc.
Mine has done 2400 miles now and no return to Click - clunk.
Now off to France in two weeks -- 5000+ miles

Maurice

This thread is superb!

Down to Volvo I went, asked for some XC90 bolts, was told they wouldn’t fit, bought them anyway, fitted them at correct torque and............................

HOORRAA!

No clonks from what I thought was the auto box OR from the area around the wheels. Clearly was a simple fix re the drive shaft bolts. There’s £37 less in my bank account, but i’m very happy to pay the price :-) hope it stays that way!

Same with me bud, I was being told it could be the drive shaft, dual mass flywheel etc....

£37 quid later, and 10 minutes work, all clicks/clonks have gone, and that was over 6 months ago, and nothing returned.

Great stuff..

New Boy,

Dan.
This is about 99% of what I would say I am currently suffering with. A nice crunch / click when pulling off first thing in the morning, and when taking foot off the accelerator around 5 - 40 mph I get a lovely clicking (which goes away when breaking)
Mine is in with the local Volvo indi at the moment who suspected the CV joint to start with, but have now said it seems to be the gearbox and could be looking at a new one. I think I'll be replacing these before anything else is done!

Hi, I replaced these bolts on my 03 V70 D5 around 18 mths ago with the recommended XC90 equivelants done up to 35Nm + 90 and have noticed the noise returning. Reading through the posts it appears that I could re-use the rubber cones (provided they are not damaged or deformed in any way) with a new set of original, standard bolts. Is my thinking correct?
Thanks

Thumbs up

Can anyone with Vadis confirm the torque settings for these bolts or does it not give that sort of info? also can anyone confirm if the bolts on the XC are actually different (self locking) as my local specialist says they are not but I have read on here before that they are.[/QUOTE]

Just Done mine on your advise mate. and the torque settings for the v70 ones is 35nm and then another 90 degrees

this tread is the business on this annoying axle ping noise.
Am off to Volvo in Maidenhead tomorrow to get the XC90 bolts and then Halfords to get a torque wrench with some Christmas vouchers I got.
Will keep you posted on progress

^^^^^^agreed very useful could this also be a knocking physically felt rather than heard on acceleration and a vibration under breaking?
