MLW is home!
At long last I picked up my 164 MLW from the garage yesterday.
I must think of a name. I have always refered to my cars as females but this one does not seem to be very lady-like. The first Volvo I can remember was a 144, new in the late sixties, belonging to Basil, a friend of my father so if it's acceptable to have a male car I think it will be called Basil. Basil now has newly reconditioned carbs that can have their mixture adjusted! The fuel gauge does not now always show a full tank as the garage have made up a loom with resistors in the circuit and at the moment shows half full. I have not driven far enough yet to find out whether the tank is empty before or after the gauge says it is! The garage also managed to stop the seat belt warning light flashing but they did not charge for that as they don't know what they did to stop it. They did find numerous other things to bill me for including checking why the HRW does not work. It still does not work but every electrical check they did indicated it is working, so bit of a mystery for me to work out. Lots of other checks and adjustments they also found to put on the bill but they did cure the missfire, prob the LT lead shorting. Took him out for a run this afternoon and goes quite nicely but a bit disappointed that the tickover is a bit hesitant (maybe a bit slow with D engaged) and does pink quite easily, but does not run on like it did before. The garage did say they would re check the settings foc if not quite right but I would like to put a tank of fresh petrol in first to see what that does. The rear seat belts will have to wait for replenishment of funds (after yesterdays hit on the credit card and todays for work on the V70 - OUCH)ss I could buy the second hand ones without fixing bolts, but no body seems to have any bolts to offer. Maybe next month a set of new Securon ones would be the best option then. Now going to put Basil to bed and looking forward to lots of cleaning and polishing weather (and energy) permitting.
