Question Alloys

This may have been asked before but will 240 GLT alloys fit a 1972 144? If so does anyone know of any pictures of a 144 with GLT alloys on?

They do fit and I think they look quite nice on the 140. Sorry, don't have any pics!

Cheers, Chris

Just have a look at the pics of the yellow 144 from Turkey. The Virgo wheels from the GLT look not very different (but better in my opinion).

Cheers again, Chris

Does this help? I think a bit tight with 195/65 on the rear but my springs are lowered about 1".

You would probably find that 185/65/15s would be ample for the 144/145 series.

All the best, Peter.

Agreed, they just came with those, about to change to 185/70 as that's the lowest profile allowed in historic road rallying but they can be a challenge to find at a sensible price and quality.

Not quite on-topic, but I recently expended a lot of elbow grease on restoring some steel wheels for use on my Amazon only to find the damn things are in fact the subtly different PCD for the 140/240/nearly every other Volvo ever made. Yes, I know I should have checked this first.

So does anyone have a set of Amazon wheels they want to swap for a freshly-painted satin black set as described above? They're the 4.5" wide version. Ideal for quick tyre swaps for road rallying purposes...just what I was intending to do.

I threw a set of aries on my 142 when I picked it up (the original tyres had rotted away) and they look quite period, in my view.

It's worth pointing out that the 140 series has the same wheel offset as the FWD cars ~43mm. Using the RWD offset ~13mm does help to fill the arches that little bit more, though.

Personally, I'm going over to American Ford pattern- 5x4.5" or 5x114.3mm.
