You may find that you will need to look in a wider area. As I write, 360dood and his mother are on their way back here from Taunton with a 480 that has just been collected (eBay purchase) with a detour past York to collect some snow tyres. Good luck with your hunt.

Yeah, both of those seem as if they could be good candidates, as long as they're not rusty.

Will, have you looked into insurance costs with the different engines? May be work doing that first, in case you end up buying one that's too dear to insure.

Hi John thanks, yes iv looked into insurance abit and its looking pretty promising, due to being 17 insurance is going to be steep what ever car i buy but suprisingly for a 1.7 its only a few pounds more than my 1.5 civic.

Is rust the biggie i should watch out for?Where are the main places to look?

Thanks will

I don't know much about the 480, but I'm sure others on here will advise.

As far as I know:
Rust, especially rear wheelarches
Electrics - check everything inc the pop up lights work exactly as they should

As I'm sure you know, a big factor in getting a good used car is looking at the ownership profile (not too many owners, people not selling on too quickly, and evidence of good maintenance - service invoices, good quality matching tyres, that sort of stuff).

Luckily the 480 tended to attract owners who wanted to (and could afford to) look after the car properly, so there are good ones out there.

Cheers

John

Get a good one and you'll love how it drives.

When they were fairly new, I had a fast drive on some windy roads and I was very, very impressed. The 480 handling was in the same league as the my Peugeot 309GTi (that's the best handling FWD car I've ever driven, and I've driven lots!).

The Peugoet is a bit sharper, but the 480 has equally strong roadholding and is more forgiving at the limit.

No disrepect to the Civic - Hondas are good on smooth surfaces - but on our bumpy twisty Yorkshire roads, you'll be amazed how much better the 480 is.

Couple of films...
