Power Steering Pump
Hi guys, I need to replace the power steering pump on my Mk1 2005 C70 convertible, my question is: how easy is it to do and does anybody have a step by step list of things to do?
Thanks. |

This is really for the V70 but yours may be similar...but on my V70 the fluid reservoir is located on the pump and not on the inner wing...

Do you happen to have the details of who rebuilt yours?
Has anyone else had their power steering pump reconditioned before – any places to recommend? Wondering whether to go down that route, or fork out for a replacement Bosch pump for my ‘99 V70 T5.

rebuild
Well after a bit of searching, was "steering specialists Ltd" based in dewsbury 01924 455669(old no), was 10 years ago, but the pump is still running perfectly so i think rebuild is a great option as long as the co doing the rebuild knows what they are doing.. i think they have moved, you can find them on thebay "the steering superstore" they do a quick turnaround service which worked well 4me ..think they are on 01924 267999 let us know how it goes,, the original pump was made by ZF

Can't help with "how to do it" as I've never done one, but if you search on YouTube for "Volvo C70 power steering pump replacement" you will probably find a video by RobertDIY who is excellent, he covers just about everything on these cars. The video will tell you everything you need to know in my experience.

It's relatively easy to do, hardest part is releasing the AUX belt - you need the correct Torx bit and a long extension bar.
Personally, I would rather fit a second hand genuine Volvo unit that a pattern part....

Absolutely this ^^^^ Don't even consider releasing the tensioner without the correct kit. The tensioner spring is bloody powerful!

I seem to recall using a 10mm spanner clamped to a long piece of wood, then a torx bit on the tensioner, worked a treat.. but def not easy to do without the right tool ! (albeit home made!)
