Default ABS Fault Codes & Where Next....

The dash board warning light is behaving normally but a clean-underpants-required-moment ( I failed to notice someone on the roundabout as I approached it. Managed to stop, but definitely locked the front wheels, surface = loose grit over tarmac) tells me that the ABS is not working.
Interrogating the ECU yields, no signal from left or right rear sensor when moving off (2-1-3 & 2-1-4).
Could someone suggest a first step for for further investigation - actually a second & third step wouldn't be out of place either! :-)
Yours, MJR

hi ya,
get the wheels off on all the car and perform this basic steps. the fronts sensors are found in the steering knuckle you will see the cable coming around the strut. At the rear the are beind the rear brake disc and can be a right-pain-in-the%%^ to get out. if you cab't you need to take off the disc itself to get access. Once out clean the metallic area with white spirit or smiliar to ensure they are clean. also disconnect the connection for the sesnor its self and clean the contacts up if they are corroded. next in the wheel wells you will see like a gearing make sure no debris can be seen as the sesnor picks up the pulse from this. used some form of compressed air while rotating the wheel.

put back in reserve order and clear the codes. if you have a really fauly sensor unlikely as they don't fail very often normally cabling. Cehck that the cabling from the sensors is in good condition no chaving.

get back to u s on your results.

You don't give the full details of your car, but does this help:

I think the fault codes are the same for all 850 and 70's up to 1999.

Codes are similar but the ABS system changed in late '95.

Carry out the basic steps as outlined above.

Check the resistance of the sensors (should be about 1100 ohms).
Look for faults to vehicle ground.

Check sensor output at ECU (should be 48 Hz and about 150mV for wheel revs at 1 per sec).
