Default Relay wanted

I'm looking for an overdrive relay and would rather not go down the black plastic cube route. Nordicar have a new old stock item on their eBay page but at £39 + postage the price is a bit strong. Does anyone have an original style relay that they would be prepared to part with?

I was there three days ago and I'm sure I saw £35.
I could have brought one back!
I may be going back in 4 weeks if it's helpful?

SEK325 at CVI, £27.65. Newly arrived. Says as per original. Certainly the right alloy pot but the bracket is different I think to the ones I have seen. Will interchange.

Yes, that CVI one is definitely different to all those that I have seen. On them, the bracket is attached to the back of the cylinder, rather than the top.

Julian, do you have a non-working original type? If so, may be worth seeing if it can be gutted, and used as a cover to conceal a modern plastic relay, assuming that the correct type is small enough to fit in the metal casing. It's something that I've been thinking of doing, should the need arise, and that way, everything still looks correct but replacements are much easier and cheaper to source. If you don't have a spare, then I probably have a couple of non-working ones (which I was intending would be 'converted' as per above) if that is of any help.

Thanks for your thoughts gents. The situation is this... When I had my engine and gearbox out, I discovered that the overdrive was being run straight through the switch. At some point the headlight relay had failed and a predecessor had used the overdrive relay in its place. I had considered your idea myself Paul but hadn't got an old unit to cannibalise. If you have a spare old one, I'd certainly give that a go. I had thought about bedding in a new one in silicone but wondered about it getting hot. I noticed the difference in the brackets too. I had planned to protect a couple of other circuits with a relay- horns for example and thought about trying to find a mounting plinth 123GT style to accommodate them. That I suspect would be even more hard to find than the relay. Enjoy your holiday Russ. Can I confirm with you once I've experimented with Paul's idea?

Relay with different mounting bracket, same number, used on later 140, 164 for OD, also for reverse light relay. Useful post here. Late bracket probably less prone to letting water in via the mount rivets.

Julian, are you coming to the Bentley meeting? If so I will bring a relay for you to try. Note: J type OD didn't use a relay. Don't know which type you have.
