XC60 engine woes
Good morning all.
I seek advice, please. Have a 2014 XC60 2.0 twin turbo with the D4204T5 engine. A couple of weeks ago the coolant expansion tank cracked and I lost all the coolant. This was replaced and all seemed okay. However, after fuelling up the car took an age to start and when it did it smoked heavily. Lots and lots of white smoke/steam. I checked the cooling system and this was pressurising very very quickly and you could see the bubbles getting into the tank. Conclusion was the head gasket was fubbared. So, changed that along with getting the head skimmed and pressure checked. Came back no problems. Rebuilt the engine and started it up. All seemed fine for a few minutes until bosh, white smoke and loads of big bubbles in the coolant tank again. Bypassed the EGR cooler with a length of hose but still getting the same issue. Am I missing something obvious, is there a common issue, liner maybe hairline cracked? Any advice gratefully received. |

It sounds like either, the head is not sufficiently true or, a very fine crack in the casting.

Suggest you post in the XC60 section, only a very few V40 were sold with that engine.
