Default fitting springs

hi all just joined this site having used it for a while to learn as much as i can about volvos seeing as i now own one.

down to buisness i have a 2000 c70 and was thinking of getting some lowering springs, now there are a few makes so any advice would be usefull and i was also wondering if anyone has fitted springs and what the job is like mostly regarding the front is it a big job or a fairly straight foward one.

cheers in advance cap

Sticking with a decent brand is a good idea, H&R or Eibach would both make good choices. The Haynes workshop manual has a very good writeup for the replacement of springs and dampers ( at least it does for the 850! ). Not a hard job at all - I managed alright .

Yes, the suspension etc is the same on the C70 2000 (in fact up until 2005) as the earlier cars. The major difference is the engine management system.

Although it is very rare on a C70, one or two do have Nivomat suspension fitted so just check that yours is standard otherwise you'll need new rear shockers as well as springs.

Changing the rear springs is very simple, you don't even need to remove the wheels. The fronts are a bit more involved, but each leg can be fully assembled off the car and then installed complete. One thing to look at carefully at the same time is the condition of the front top mounts, if they need replacing, then get genuine Volvo lowers and pattern uppers.
