Parking Lights
Slighly off topic, but have noticed sometimes when I park up, and turn lights off, and lock up, that sometimes parking lights are on..but switch is turned to far left.
However they go off when the final click sound happens, about a minute after pressing keyfob to lock; only happens sometimes; can't figure out why.

If you catch the light stalk when taking out the key and manage to 'flash' the headlights then they will stay on for a set amount of time after the car is locked. I think you can set the amount of time they stay on for in the menu.
Did this a few times on mine before deciding to read the manual and it all made sense |

lights stay on
Yes I'm aware of that "walk home" feature, but this is the parking lights.

Its personal preference, but I couldn't stand having my V50 side or dipped headlights on especially during summer (having lights on when wearing sunglasses - no I don't think so). Hence why I had them swiched off when I obtained my next Volvo. More and more these days other manufacturers have gone for daytime running lights but at least on these cars the lights look better (LED effect) as seen on BMWs/Audi's etc. |

I have put this previously on another thread but I thought it worth repeating on this one. I put brighter bulbs into my Volvo but both blew within 4 months. I contacted Osram, they were Osram Nightbreakers, and a technical person there confirmed that this type of bulb is not up to DLR. He confirmed that cars running on DLR will move towards LED lights as that is the best way to get long lasting, bright lights. I assume that car makers will move towards introducing LED lights into cars as we get near to the EU deadline. (interesting fact - LED lights only project light in a singular narrow beam, the light does not spread. Car lights will therefore need lots of LED lights at various angles to match the spread of current lights. I thought that was interesting when I read it first time anyway)
I tended to be anti DLR, as one previous contributor put it, sunglasses and head lights at the same time?, but after poor weather in the last few weeks alongside stupid people not using any lights at all maybe we have to accept them. It is a shame that everyone has to accept them because of a few stupid people but as it relates to a quite a dangerous piece of machinery, a car, maybe we have to put up with it. Let's face it there are worse things that could be imposed then headlights being permanently turned on. |

just been looking over DLR threads... i have just had to replace my DLR's after 12 months / 20000 miles. I had a set of philips night vision bulbs in but strangely only one went so I thought I'd have a spare. However when I changed the blown bulb and started the engine to check my work the other one had gone!!! Is this a ploy to ensure you replace both together?

Ive changed my sidelights for LED bulbs..... there are no dashboard warning messages for either the sidelights or those orange "volvo" lights.
I've actually removed the bulbs from those stupid volvo orange lights. I havent had the DRL function switched off, but when I'm driving in the day I leave the switch set to the sidelight setting, so its just my LED bulbs on at the front. http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/501...lbs-c-611.html Any of the above should work as sidelights for the V50/S40. |
