Given the weather at the moment, indoor pursuits sound a lot better than swapping wheels over so that's probably not a bad target date and you can celebrate with pancakes afterwards!

Default Tow Bar

I have acquired this brute:

It seems to be a genuine one that would bolt straight onto the RB:

The chassis rail seems to have holes in the right places, but I'm guessing I'd have to cut this hoop off on the OSR chassis rail:

I have no idea what that does, but it seems to be redundant on the RB. The near side appears not to have any problems:

I'm guessing the holes are already threaded, does anyone have an idea what size bolts they would take?

I'm not planning to fit this to the RB at the mo, it is pretty heavy and so would be like driving around with a body on the back sofa. It might just be useful if I ever didn't have a towing car though, so I may just acquire the bolts and put the kit in the motorcycle shed with the other spares.

:-)

That "hoop" is a towing/lashing eye and i'd be amazed if the official Volvo instructions were to remove that in any way, shape or form if it's welded on. I suspect you'll find that you can fit the towbar without interfering with it. If not it should unbolt easily and shouldn't need cutting.

Chances are the bolts you need are M12 flange-head bolts but have a look at this and you should find the answers!

Looks fairly straightforward albeit with a couple of unusual bits.

Many thanks Dave, it was still raining this morn so I didn't spend too long under the motor car, I'll have a look at that lashing eye another day.

I found the information in this photo (my thanks to philroche):

... as you say, it looks easy enough.

Alan

PS. Many thanks, that document is very useful.

Default Hub Caps

I have acquired a few 6" Volvo hub caps (just the three you see here):

... unfortunately they will not fit either of my Volvos. It might be useful to know which models these do fit, I'm guessing the base model 240s (with steel wheels) up to the mid 80s, but perhaps some 140 and maybe even 120 motor cars as well?

I'll hang on to them in case any forum members need a replacement.

Alan

No idea what they do fit, but not 140 series. Early 140 were a 'snap on' fit but much larger diameter and deeper with a series of indent around the front surface. Later ones were much shallower and fixed with a central Phillips screw.

Many thanks; probably just early 240s then.

An Army mate has sent me this:

... fortunately I have a lithe and lissom 240, and not a 740 :-)

Default Spring Has Sprung

I've decided spring is here, so the RB is back to its Virgo wheels and summer tyres today:
