Clunking noise from driveline
Hi guys, i have a 2007 S60 diesel with about 95k on it, for the last while its been making a knocking/clunk noise, its not suspension it doesnt do it over rough ground, only when pulling away, or when parking and changing from 1st to reverse, it also will do it when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd, sometimes will do it when changing from overun to accelerating too, it had a new clutch and flywheel in january, so i thought maybe a mounting had worn loose but they all seem ok, i replaced the bottom torque rod on the gearbox but that didnt help, all the bolts in the mounts seem tight and theres no play in balljoints etc, it definately feels like a mounting though cause if u keep your hand on the gearstick when you accelerate or decelerate you can feel the gearstick pulling with the engine, anyone any ideas? Im a mechanic myself but ive looked a few times at it and cant see anything obvious, perhaps need to get it on a ramp and investigate properly.

sounds like drive shaft clunk - do a search on here it's a common fault on previous gen S60

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, but i checked the driveshafts, the bolts are both tight, I think its an engine mounting or something, it now does it when starting too, obviously cause of the movement of the engine, but ive checked them all and all seem ok, top mount looks knackered but I seen a brand new one which is the same, the rubber isnt connected to the metal surrounding it it just sort of sits in the middle and restricts some movement.
