Default The National - Camping Question!

It's getting closer! With the National nearly upon us, and the dates marked in black ink in capital letters on calendars and electronic organiser wizardry alike, my thoughts turn to when to arrive.

Living in Skipton means a day trip is possible, but we'd actually like to camp the saturday night enabling us to see a bit of the area without stress of doing it all in one day.

I must have borrowed Wurzel Gummidges 'Thicky Head' recently, as I see no mention of facilities for campers - the kind that do it under canvas, not tin. Forgive me (perhaps a bit naive here being a potential caravaner..) I don't understand this 'CL' business and site ratings thus.

Can we pitch our tent next to you guys in proper home-from-homes at the National site, or will we have to find an alternative tent friendly pitch type place? I have looked up Goose Wood (as reccomended in the Driver - looks great, but states it only takes motorhomes and caravans).

It's a proper tent, not some backpacker type thingy. Separate bedroom area and a spacious living area one can even stand up in (all 6"+ if the whim takes you). So we won't look too out of place, will we? And we promise not to hang our smelly socks on the guy ropes....

If anyone could clarify this we would be most grateful! (As a back-up plan does anyone know of a good campsite for tents nearby with nice showers etc??)

You will need to be a member of the Caravan & Camping Section - it's all to do with the certificate the club holds...I am told. I expect you can join on the day if are not, or phone one of the section officials.

We are travelling over from Northern Ireland so we tried to book a B&B but none would take a booking for one night at the weekend.
So we have changed our sailing time so that we will stay two nights in York.
See you all there.
Cheers.
