£30 MOT passed but......
My S60 recently passed the 100k mark and I now feel that I want to see how far it will go on.
Yesterday it passed its MOT with 1 advisory for the NSF "track rod end ball joint has slight play [2.2.b.1f]". He said to get it done soonest, so any ideas how much that will be as I've not had to replace one of these since the 80's on my old cosworth. Also the emissions - Looking at the document its 0.47 1/m and the tester said that was very good. I use the old V-Power diesel so I suppose that helps?. Oh and the MOT only cost £30!! I thought they were £50ish all day long............ Steve. Last edited by Speedy; Sep 16th, 2011 at 08:27. |

That is a very good result, it all depends on whether you fit the track rod end yourself or get the garage to do it, the track rod end is fairly inexpensive but I would reccomend getting the tracking done afterwards.

The ball joint in the track rod is on the inner tie rod, mine rattles all over the place but then again my car is knackered.
I replaced the track rod ends on my car, I think they were about £40 from Rufe (I may be wrong on price but it weren't too expensive) THe play is definitley on the inner tie rod though so you may need to price that up.

Easy enough to fit just make sure the splines are clear of oxidation before trying to fit the new one. Can get a pair for around £20 on ebay.

Inners are easy enough to fit, but a real gyt to get out. Mine were tread locked to the hilt. Chain wrench was the only victor. They are not expensive, tho.
