R-P, I'm pretty sure I have a used, working one knocking around in my garage, it has been tested and held vacuum fine, it was just one of the many parts I tried substituting..

Will try and get in there to see if I have it, think I only paid £15 for it, and you are welcome to it, not sure about p&p to you though...

I made the guy an offer (Dutch Ebay-like site) for the governor, an injector (grade not known, but may be "1" according to what's on the box) and a turbo-hose (the one with the crank case breather that went soft on Hobbyhorse's D5). All items are new.
I he doesn't accept or counter-offer something reasonable, I will gladly take you up on your offer!

@ Bernard: thanks for the advice, will have a look. Your (UK) market is a lot bigger than our (Dutch) market, so it may be worth paying some extra shipping for parts! My local breaker doesn't have D5's yet

UPDATE

This V50 governor valve has a different FORD type plug fitting , but you could get around it by buying a plug and terminals or some other way ..

My turbo nozzle control governor has a leak in its membrane, and I rather pay £50 than £110
(There's a new one for sale on the Dutch equivalent of Ebay, but he wants 90 euro's for it (excluding shipping), getting the V50 one at the local Volvodealer will be probably be cheaper...)

Hi i needed a new turbo control valve for my 54 xc90 d5 163 and ordered the v50 2.0d one,but was embarrassed when volvo got it as the plug socket is a different type completely, and the two vac pipes are on the other side,i convinced them to send it back for free, and get me the original one,as i did not fancy messing about trying to make it fit and cutting my original plug off,and trying to source a v50 plug and crimping on, ouch !! rather the extra £50 than bodgeing it up!

hi how did you get on? have you replaced your turbo? has it sorted it? did you go for a second hand or recon or new?
i am asking as i think my turbo is knacked also as when i tow my caravan and in 5th or 6th gear the turbo squeals and sounds awful and i get the "engine service required" message i have changed intercooler, turbo governer vac valve, turbo inlet rubber hose incase of collapsing, and check all other hoses etc but now noise is getting louder and really now sounds like the turbo, it only happens underload uphill around 1800-2200 rpm gonna take a look at it later got the (xc90 d5 54 plate 133k)car on ramps now

I've seen a thread on a forum with a cheaper Vauxhall VNT governor exactly the same as the Volvo V70 one. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I've knackered my two year old turbo after a track day at Castle Combe and think it might have something to do with this VNT controller.

Anyone know of any companies willing to refurb a Garrett VNT turbo? Owen Developments say Garrett will not release spare parts for them so you have to buy new or go second hand.

Thanks

Andy/Carl Mellets make a variable nozzle aftermarket set , they claim its their own design and manufacture in the UK , problem might be getting them to deal directly with you as they want to deal with trade customers only . I would try taking your turbo apart and having a look to see if the actuator ring is broken , you dont have to take the core assembly apart to get at the ring so you are not risking putting the rotor assembly out of balance . Have posted photos somewhere on here of one stripped down , could be if its just gunged up with soot you can clean it . Test the vaccuum actuator bottle by pressing the actuator arm in and putting your finger on the air outlet to see if holds for a couple of seconds then its probably ok .

Wink d5 turbo ecm6805 faults

just to say i replaced my turbo with a volvo genuine and since then car flies with no problems and tows better than ever and with no faults at all,so no more ecm6805 thank goodness, gonna keep the car now as i did start to lose interest in it as it was costing a fortune to fix,but its better the devil you know as i have replaced a lot of parts with new which was not the fault,if only i had replaced the turbo first, but it drove ok until towing so just the way it goes sometimes.

Do you have the old faulty turbo with you? Where was it manufactured: France or Italy? There is a number plate with the country name stamped on in.
