Front crankshaft seal 940 turbo

Hi all, I need a front crankshaft seal for my 97 940 2.3 turbo. I have been in contact with Chris Harris at FRF was told it's NLA. Has anyone found a good quality 3rd party replacement? If so could you please let me know. Any help is greatly appreciated

have you checked polar parts, skandix or classic swede?

Never had a problem with one, just lube well and take care with sliding them in not to fold the lip over and push in square

If you can't get genuine Volvo I would suggest Elring as having a reasonable reputation

They sell that brand on autodoc. I have bought from them a few times. Stuff like oil plug o rings and the like. Not enough to have an opinion on the quality. Autodoc even has the gasket op is looking for from that brand.

They sell both good and crappy quality parts. I can't attest to the mentioned brand, although I have used it before.
But AutoDoc itself is good. Most of those online only aftermarket parts websites are really just dropshipping from AutoDoc. It all comes from gemany, from autodoc's shipping facilities. I buy almost all aftermarket parts for my cars from them and I never had an issue that wasn't promptly resolved.
Havind said that, if I can find a local business selling at a resonably similar price, I will buy locally.

It does look as though the OEM crankshaft seal is currently NLA, which is odd since it is used across a wide range of older Volvo engines still in daily use. Sometimes Volvo resume manufacture of parts when there is sufficient demand and this may be in the process of transitioning to being a "genuine classic" part.

If anyone just has to have an OEM original there is one left on eBay Australia with world-wide delivery at not too bad a price.

There is a brief article on Skandix which explains the differences between old and new style radial seals which could go a long way towards explaining some of the difficulties people have reported using non-OEM.

If choosing a non-OEM replacement it would appear to be best to look for a conventional oil seal with a spring ring.
