I am really looking forward to how one handles with a refresh.

And it takes alot to impress me as im a 205 gti owner
Compared to when I got the car on 15" wheels with knackered suspension it's miles better. I wouldn't want to race a decent hot hatch in it tho

Have you uprated your arb's? polybush? maybe that's a weak point on them too. My friends friend had two bolted together on his im sure. Its too solid a shell to handle badly surely. I have seen alot of volvo owners running around on ancient parts hanging in there so alot don't expect much haha

The 940 is not a particularly heavy car either at 1350kg or whatever they are so soft rubber is on the cards if you are prepared to change more often. I miss the days of goodyear eagle f1's been cheap.

Got the bracket to do a double rear but not fitted yet. Not convinced over doing rear arb helps that much

You can get 30mm lowering springs

How are the rear beams mounted on a 940? Thats area can be a handling killer if soft

Arb will only help if everything else around it isnt sloppy too on axle set up. I am too new to them to know

This doesnt show arb but standard rear ones on turbo cars are 19mm I think

There is quite a few little bits to look at isnt there. Few bush points. When i am next at the car i will have to look under ours and see if any obvious load points pop up.

Unless they have poorly designed suspension, I'm sure they can be set up to handle good. Hopefully not admitting defeat at a later date haha

I think the point I'm trying tp make is that they were never really designed to handle that great to start with ( not many people who bought a large barge Volvo estate were expecting it to ) so even by replacing everything it's never going to be an MX5

As I said, with what I've done to mine ( entire front end suspension and all bushes with chassis brace and rear shocks, springs etc it's now miles better than it was

Increasing the roll stiffness by adding (or doubling up) anti roll bars is a good way to instantly improve handling.

New standard springs and dampers on mine were the first vast improvement then fitting the rear ARB (Standard on 940s from 1993 i think) improved matters further. Still not in the same league as my other beast which is longer, wider and heavier but corners flat with a lot of grip on the road but a huge improvement over standard.

It also means that the ride quality isn't compromised, still a nice, soft, compliant ride until you hit the corners then it stays more upright while gripping better because of the weight transfer which with stiffer ARBs puts more weight onto the outside tyres resulting in more grip.

Is your 760 IRS rear Dave ? Or is it live rear like the 940 ?
