Default Driver Information Module Fault

And how do I lock the car!?

So, it appears that I have the dreaded DIM issue. For a while now I've had an intermittent issue with Main Beam indication light. I know this is a symptom of failing DIM (yes, I checked the bulb).
Yesterday, came out of Ikea, started car and realised there was no dash. No rev counter, no trip computer, no fuel gauge etc. It was all off!
Took it apart when I came home and it came back on (albeit with an Airbag fault).

Had a go at repairing, but I don't think it's worked. What I did find. though, is that the central locking didn't work with dash out. So when I send it away for repair, how do I lock the car? I can lock doors with buttons. Driver's door with key: but what about boot? Car is parked in street, so leaving it unlocked is not an option.

Planning on sending it to VolvoDiagnostics as they come recommended. I'm going abroad with it in the summer, so want it reliable by then.

Disconnect the battery and then close and lock car manually.
It will be secure.

How does the boot lock this way?
And, if it does lock, how do I open the boot again to put the battery back in?
(Although, if I leave the seats folded I could climb in through rear....

Ah heck I'm getting soft in the head
Yeah, electric boot lock only. Rats.

OK, do this:
1. Take the boot inner panel off, lock boot manually from the inside
2. Close and lock all vehicle doors from the inside
3. Exit through driver's door, and lock with key

But because you're pulling out the DIM you need to disconnect the battery anyway.

Yeah, that's the conclusion I'd come to.
Thanks.

Could you not just disconnect the battery and use a 12v power source on the jump start points under the bonnet to power the central locking motors? Make sure you can unlock the drivers door with the key first though, as you'll need to get in that way to open the bonnet again.

Nope. I found that, with dash out, the central locking doesn't work.Neither on keyfob, or on "Lock" button on door. Strange the way systems inter connect on these things.
Think I'll lock on the button, remove battery (from inside car) then dash and lock driver's door with key. Refit in reverse.
