2.4 D5 manual gear stick play

Hi everyone.

Searched this forum but cannot find a definitive answer. I have a 2011 (61) V60 2.4 D5. I’ve just bought it, 142k miles. My gear lever has lateral play which feels like it is a worn bush or in the gearstick mechanism. It gets all the gears but is not precise to use and you can tell something is worn out somewhere.

Any advice on the location of the issue? Will it be in the lever or the cable ends on the box? Or both?

To clarify on my box reverse is down and to the right.
Any advice appreciated. Happy to tackle it as the car is mint and worth keeping right. Knowledgable people on here must’ve been down this road before!

Hi, just wondering did you get anywhere with this issue as I have the same problem with my 2009 manual V70. I have seen lots of repair kits online for other models but none for Volvo`s. I went to the dealer to enquire, and he gave me the attached parts list and a price of €358 for the item " Gear Shift Control". This is a whole unit with part number (30787884), but its clear when you look under the leather Gaiter at the ball joint, that the part under the ball can be replaced, surely someone has been down this road. was thinking of buying a used unit but it could be nearly as bad with wear.
