I was having a brain-fart last night and think i typed the wrong size which i intended to be 215/45/17 but that is roughly equivalent to the two smaller tyre sizes i quoted after.

Checking the Owners Manual for a 2010 V70 on pgs 262/263, the original tyre is 225/50/17 and Volvo list an option of 245/45/17 which would be a tight squeeze on a 7J rim.

With that in mind, i'd be inclined to take a big deep breath and pay the extra for the 225/50/17 tyres.

That 3.5% difference might not sound much, however at 100kmh your speedo will read at least 103.5kmh, if not more if it already reads fast. In mph, that would be showing 65mph at 62mph.
The other thing is most tyre companies recommend a maximum difference of 2% diameter when changing tyre sizes to minimise the speedo error. With the comments from Clan about the software and so on, i'd definitely stick with the standard size. Chances are it would work fine except for the speedo error but if it doesn't it could prove to be an expensive cost-saving of fitting cheaper tyres!

I replaced the rears on mine recently with Continental Sport Contact 5 225 x 50 x17.

That's what it came with from new so I thought I woulod stick with that. Car has just turned 29k and I managed 25k + out of the fronts. I couldve got more out of rears but got a nail through one so just replaced both.

I think that's pretty good for a heavy front wheel drive car

On My 2015 Auris Hybrid I have changed the Conti Eco contact 6 with Goodyear efficient grip performance 2's. So far all good, quiet and grip seems good, much less traction control kicking in when booting it away at the lights!

Conti were well perished and cracking in tread and also sidewall on NSF. Down to around 3mm and covered 34,000 miles from new.


Volvo 940 has Michelin energy savers all round. In my opinion a good tyre but expensive. Seems to suit my workhorse, and touch wood no issues.
Bought the rear tyres dead cheap 4 years ago, as being sold as used as a spare and changing rim size. 10 month old tyre at the time with full tread for £20 and another for £25. Bought matching fronts last Autumn and paid full price.
Don't get a lot of use as still need to take off my Goodyear Ultragrip 9's winter tyres off. Volvo only does around 4-5k a year.

My 940 came with 4 un-matching cheap tyres when bought, cant complain though as cheap! In Ireland went round an island in the wet and the rear got tail happy, despite being fully laden! Transformed with the new Michelins on rear.
