Default "Common faults" - how many are there??

Haven't owned this '10 reg R-Design long but it's already presented the following:
* Key fob falling to bits - rebuilt
* Tail gate latch getting stuck - compression spring added
* Satnav working but has no clue where it is(!)
* Throttle flaps ('nough said!) - replaced
* Alarm going off for absolutely no reason

Alarm was just last night so no idea why that happened (but I have already read many a forum post on the subject), and satnav, well, might just rip that out and put cup holders there instead!!

So what else is the thing likely to present me with?

Unfortunate, but probably no more than any other car brand or model ....
most issues on previously owned cars are down to poor "love care and attention" esp if they were leased/company cars etc IMO.

As is commonly said in these and other Volvo forums, these are NOT inexpensive cars to own nor run.

Dont lose faith, and work through the issues systematically and as you have already done read the forums.

Looked after the Phase 1 XC90 is an incredible car and if required do starship mileages but they really require to be looked after.

My opinion, hope it helps

Hello, my bet would be:
- engine mounts
- brake pedal position sensor
- brake booster seal
- carbon deposits in throttle body, EGR, inlet manifold and myriad of hoses, also blocked injectors

Who else wants to add to the list?

I second the opinion about maintenance. Previous owner of my XC90 was stupid enough to drive around in 2 tonne car with broken brakes.

The parking brake is bizarre! How that was easier or a better idea than a simple lever on a ratchet is beyond me!
So what's the symptom(s) of a misbehaving brake pedal sensor, is it just the brake lights don't do what they should?

In my case that symptoms were very short brake pedal travel and basically binary brake action. Scared the hell out of me and I was going barely 20mph. Lights were and are working ok, as there's separate switch for that.

To add my 10c worth:

I've had none of the "common" faults described above.

Yes, I had weak parking brake performance, but that was a wear and tear maintenance issue.

The only "fault" I had was axle ping on the front wheels, solved with grease.

Please a slipping torque converter in my gearbox... not yet resolved... $$$$$

Default Fault free

Had my 2012 se lux for 4 years, not had any of the mentioned faults, although parking brake is not great, replaced the rear discs which initially made it worse, I think the rust on the drums gave it grip, new discs are smooth, operated parking brake for a couple of times for a short distance, much better now. All in all been a great car.
