I'm afraid that I use weed killer. I keep the two cats away when I do.
Asda petrol usually. |

Joking aside, would that be the 95 octane stuff? It's not always possible to keep my hound away from whatever is growing, also there are resident wild hedgehogs and neighoburs cats often come through the garden (except when the hound is out!) so it's the old fashioned way for me or fire. Fire can get out of hand so i have to be careful where i point the blowtorch!

Are you sure the vacuum pipe for the breather T piece isn't cracked and leaking air especially at the heated flange under the carburettor ?

That'll be 95 octane then. Maybe less if the fuel suppliers can get away with it. Try running it on BP Ultimate instead (make sure you get the petrol Ultimate and NOT the Diesel Ultimate!) as i think you might just be surprised how much better it runs.
There have been many PRV V6s (the earlier ones with more Renault involvement) that have run like a bag of spanners and then better petrol was used and hey presto, no more problems! I know my B280E doesn't like supermarket fuel, i won't use Tesco fuel except in dire emergencies as it killed at least 2, possibly 3 Lambda sensors in short order on my other beast and only returned about 2/3 of the economy it should have done. I've tried Shell V-Power, was good when it first came out, now as bad as supermarket fuels. Also my other beast doesn't like supermarket fuels either, returns much better running, economy and power on BP Ultimate. Could be something as simple as that on yours. Worth checking that T piece as Clan advised, i thought you'd already checked for air leaks though?

Sorry that I've not been on here to report back earlier.
I don't use the car much and wanted to get the tank very low on petrol. I got it down to the petrol warning light coming on, and then a bit further. On Sunday I put in about 4 gallons of petrol that was stored in cans, mainly for the lawn mowers (two ancient Flymo 2 strokes). I ran the car very briefly, did not notice much difference. But today, did a about 7 miles through traffic, stop start, the car performed perfectly. Asda have come back to me claiming that there was nothing wrong with the petrol I bought. At this moment, I am about 98% sure that it was contaminated petrol. Coincidentally, the bad tickover happened just after I filled up at Asda. The next use of the car will be on Saturday, I'll report back. Had a look for the Analogue Gunsons CO meter, not found it as yet! Many thanks to all. |
