2014 XC60 suddenly lots of messages...
We are in Cornwall (I am doing a crazy Pandemic Pedal with MrsMikeIOW as backup for a few days...today was a beautiful start then hideous rain for 4 hours ).
On the way down, the adaptive cruise stopped, with a message “ABS/ESC Sercive Required”. Weather was pouring, so I felt it could have been that. Setting cruise off then on worked briefly a few times, but the message came back. Same message shortly after starting today. Then this evening, it asked if we wanted to contact the dealer....then we saw a new message: “Transmission Service Required”. Feels like electronic gremlins have finally landed after our mere 80k miles (only about 5k in the past year!). I’ll try to call the local indy specialist tomorrow (bit tricky as I endeavour to pedal Lands End to John O’Groats!), but wondered what the hive mind here thought. Search didn’t bring any obvious things to link the messages! Cheers

If any of that hideous rain got through the windscreen seal it could have got into a CANBus connector and screwed with the warning message system.

Good suggestion. Wonder what the cure is....hairdryer and a new windscreen?!
Useful for me to check with the indy.....

Thought I'd return to update you all: I know you are hanging on the edges of your seats!
Dropped into the Leicester Indy garage today: it was all caused by a faulty OSF ABS Sensor: phew!! City Safety, ABS/ESC, adaptive cruise, Transmission....all to one wee sensor Sorted, and back happily OTR. Well, driveway: it is rarely used, tbh! Back off to continue my Pandemic Pedal on Weds morning (& hoping for better than the atrocious weather and broken crank I had from the Lands End part last week!)

Thank you for posting, always useful to hear of these gremlins. My car is 2013 with 126K on it, heading to gremlin territory at that age and mileage
good luck with the trip, sorry about the awful weather here in Cornwall at the moment |

What I took away from the experience was that Volvo really needed to have done more testing of their software prior to manufacture. After all, it's clear that ABS sensor failure isn't that uncommon. |

Most likely battery ...
These cars are sensitive to battery voltage and on both occasions when the battery on my XC60 started to give notice, there was a variety of messages that popped up .. together with some strange behaviour as the battery deteriorated.

The software is actually "playing it safe", it sees data it cannot understand and so stops trying to do anything clever by itself and hands over to the driver. The risk of trying to keep everything going is that if it "thinks" it is just a faulty sensor but it is something more serious it cannot detect, then it could automatically do something you don't expect.

I had a similar experience with ABS & City Safety warnings and non-functional cruise control caused by a failed ABS sensor a few months back. My S60 is a manual, so no transmission warnings. City Safety and Cruise Control are dependent on 100% working brakes, so it's understandable that the failure knocks them out too.
