Hi all,

I'm toying with the idea of unpairing my app from the car (ending ownership as its termed in the app), and then re-pairing to see if that updates my details at all. That is adds the correct homepage car image and features, and also sorts out my registration plate which has been incorrect since we transferred our private plate on after purchase.

However, I'm concerned that without input from Volvo or my dealer, I may not be able to re-pair the car to the app/subscription. Has anyone done this?

When i was buying my car guy from Volvo told me they have to register this car into my details to be able to pair my car to VOC app. I think if you unpair your car from app you will have to ask them to pair it again ;( but i never did it and this is only my private opinion

Yeah, don't unpair by yourself. Call your local Volvo dealer and discuss the issues over the phone. They can reset some things on the Volvo side, or they can recommend updating the car's software.

I think that trying to do something by yourself may cause more issues.

One small annoyance with the app ..... went out to the car this morning to head down to the physio (had knee replacement op a month ago hence car not been driven in that time and the need for physio) and it wouldn't start. Should have clocked the battery may be flat but had lots of other stuff on my mind obviously - but why can't the app be tweaked to tell you battery charge is degrading?

Agree in 100%. They should put the information about this under Maintenance

After a period of time of being idle the car will go to sleep to save battery, the remote start will not work until you have re-awakened your car by unlocking it and starting it manually, after that the remote start will work again. This has always been the case, its not the new app.

Edit; sorry, I have re-read your post, initially I thought you meant remote start, yes a low battery warning would be nice but as I said above the car goes to sleep so I do not think it will communicate.

I got the app update this morning.

I tried setting Climate Comfort for 10 mins and it asked if I wanted to start the car. I said no as I have the Aux Heater option which is used for pre-heating. The app then showed red air flow which to me would imply heating but the aux heater didn't start. Note that the app said it was 15C but the car's external sensor said 21C.

So, seems like there's two possibilities:
  • The new app version doesn't cater for the Aux Heater option. As I seem to be one of the few (only?) people with this option it wouldn't surprise me.
  • Or, when the climate system started it realised that the cabin temperature was >20C so didn't start the heater and just blew air through as it normally would. However this doesn't explain the red airflow.
I subsequently did it again but selected 'start car' and that worked. Perhaps this was to allow the aircon to run but with no indication on the app as to the actual status I'm not sure. Obviously I need it to be cooler to check if it will use the aux heater. I won't be happy if I lose the ability to remote start the heater.

Have any T8 owners noticed the aux heater running? I guess it's unlikely given the ambient summer temperatures.

I also noticed it's showing the car as silver rather than the Osmium Grey it actually is. It could be the default display colour but it also happens to be the colour of my first XC90. Perhaps just a coincidence.

Even with the car going to sleep I dont think it would be technically impossible to check battery condition (say) every 48 hrs. Of course battery degradation has become more of an issue for many these past 15 months - what with lockdown and 18 months of knee pain I've done less than 3k miles these past 12 months. Tho as noted elsewhere the car is worth more now than when lockdown started - bizarre times

I don't recall my dealer doing anything to help me set up the app, the normal "handover guy" was apparently on holiday so I had the salesman do the paperwork but that was about it.

I think I followed the instructions at https://volvo.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9754

It's Sunday, so why not give it a go. If it works, then great. If not, give the dealer a call in the morning
