Painting delayed...base coat applied previously didn’t work and after a few hours in the oven cracked... forcing the bodyshop to take the coat off to bare metal...
Second coat applied from scratch same problem again... back to metal and now finally the base coat seems to be fine and not cracking. An incredible amount of hours of prep involved. Treated like a 1920 Bugatti Royale. Thanks to the bodyshop for being so patient and looking to get the best job possible.

Looks great! - I'm guessing medium blue? (code 121).

That is coming on really well, and and looks very good in the blue colour. I hope the body shop is charging a fixed price and not by the hour!

Well done,

Alan

Colour code 121, Aleutian blue.
The story about this paint job is a bit complicated because we found NOS paint cans from the early 80’s. Which I wanted to use badly. The original paint Volvo used to paint this car. Pure illegal paint now a days
Despite the age that mix of chemicals looked like new.
Chemical didn’t work well with base coat and once dry it kept cracking.
Paint shop sent to lab our paint to understand what would be the right under coat to spray.
Once chemical composition was found, car has been stripped down to metal again and coated using the right product.
Bodyshop went a step farther agreeing to use this paint...which they should not...
Next step the car is going back to the garage for rebuild and once all together, back to the bodyshop to paint door, bonnet and boot.
At the end of this restoration I’ll be broke. I’ll have no money to put petrol in and drive it but I’ll be happy 😃
