If you have a leak, they can't regas so won't charge.
You then know that your pressure sensor is most likely working and doesn't need replacing so your money can go towards fixing the leak.

If you don't have a leak and it holds good pressure using the garage pressure gauge but your pressure reading is still duff, your pressure sensor is faulty and there are plenty available for reasonable money.
That sounds a sensible strategy. Hopefully will get it working for when the weather gets hot!

You do realise that by fixing it you will put a hex on the whole Summer

Just thought I would update this thread with the positive outcome. Our local ETS had a £40 offer for a re-gas so I took them up on it. VIDA is now showing a system pressure of 444 kPa compared with 30 kPa before it was filled. That is slightly over spec but then I guess the on-board pressure sensor may not be completely accurate? The car had been off the road for 1-2 years so I was relieved to see the compressor clutch cycling in a nicely noise free manner. Ah....nice cool air again :-)

and...yes...I have clearly hexed the summer as the heat of last week is no more!

Guys,
I've got a fault code "ECM-500F air conditioning faulty signal" and although it's difficult to be certain, I don't think the aircon is working on cold.
Any ideas where I start with this ? I have VIDA but how do I use it to find / read the
refrigerant pressure ?
Thanks

Gas pressure is in Diagnostics >Vehicle Communication >CCM >Parameters
Look at the cabin temperature and evaporator temperature too when ac is working.

Default Aircon code 500F

Thanks Simon
Looking at parameters, I can see a list of LEDs and switches to test, but I can't see anything referring to refrigerant pressure.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks

John

Apologies John. Just checked again and the AC Pressure is in ECM Parameters not CCM.

Thanks Simon my A/C pressure reads 108kpa - below spec so I'm going to get it recharged - also checked the A/C relay function, which does not show as operating on VIDA when I switch it on with engine running - assuming as per original post on this thread that is due to low pressure too.

I would too start with a regas because if the low gas is due to a leak, they won't carry out the regas or charge you.
It's worth remembering that normally, when demanding AC on a system low on gas, the relay will at least switch and engage the AC clutch but soon disengage.
To check you haven't also got a problem with the clutch gap, I would measure the gap between the AC pulley and clutch plate.

Hi John

I'm diagnosing a similar problem on a 2006 XC70 at the moment:

- ECM-500F DTC being logged
- 108 kPa on the A/C pressure sensor (coincidentally the same value you had?).
- AC clutch is working (verified using the activation when the engine was not running), but never engaged.

I'm currently thinking that the problem is likely just that the ECM refuses to engage the compressor because of the low pressure, and I'm thinking of getting the system topped up. Did that end up working for you?
