Default B16F engine - interference or not?

As title suggests,

My brother has my 1994/M reg 440 with the B16F 1.6i. We haven't had the car long, and thus the history is a bit of a grey area. He has just told me that the timing belt has gone. Are these engines interference or not?

Thanks in advance

In the absence of knowing how to edit, I thought I'd add - car was sat idling, and cut out. He pushed car to the side of the road (luckily outside his house) and took belt cover off and it was gone. Therefore car wasn't being hammered down the motorway at 70+ when it went. Still a risk of bent valves?

Pretty sure that they are an interference engine, if it snapped at idling speed he may have got lucky, if he's good with the spanners i'd put another one on and see what happens.

Thank you, I also thought they were. I asked my mechanic today and on checking Autodata it didn't really give much info. My brother is handily serving his apprenticeship with Renault, and has been suggested to him that it's worth putting the new belt on, timing it up properly and seeing how it goes as it was near enough idling speed. New INA belt kit ordered and water pump as well. Hoping this 440 can live another day.
